Tools and Storage

"Fear knocked at the door and faith answered. No one was there" - Old English Proverb

I've been thinking about tools and what if things go haywire. What tools will we need and how should they be stored and carried. Until the last few months I figured we needed the cabinet in the wall and hanging on the wall type of storage. I'm not so sure of that now.

This is the tool room/shop as it is today. Messy is just the beginning. You can see the multiple recycled kitchen cabinets I've lined the walls with and filled with tools and stuff.

I've also started to rethink the kinds of tools we will need. Over time I've collected many hand tools for woodworking; chisels, planes, draw knives, brace and bits, various saws and such. I've also found through remodeling power tools sure make the job easier and more professional looking.

Now I will never be as organized or precise as H.O. Studley and his piano making tool chest, but I think I'm now moving in a direction of smaller and more portable tool storage.

Now it seems to me the tools we will need will be more of the axe/hatchet/saw variety as well as woodworking, metric and SAE tools. All in reasonably movble and portable storage units. I'm going to try and rid myself of tools I won't use and consolidate all tools into easily movable and organized units of storage. That will be quite a task. But not without its pleasures.
