Today is the first day of school in our small town. It is also the second First Day of School I will not be attending. Changing jobs has made that possible. I still hear the bells and get a feeling of urgency in my belly, but I don't get up and move to a room. I'm signing up to substitute teach. It's good money for a days work and I can say no if I have something to do.
The bigger thought running through my brain is what makes a person stay at a job, and what makes them stay? This is aside from trading their work for money so they may survive. Why do some people stay at a job for 30-40 years and others move on every 5 or less. It seems like having workers stay on for longer times would be beneficial for a company or work situation. I just read of a person mentioning that in the two plus years they have been on their job, they have had 3 VP's and 2 Supervisors. Seems like a big turnover in key positions. Made me wonder and this is my working theory at this time.
People fall into two categories: those that can adapt when the situation logically calls for change and those that have a difficult time changing. Jobs are in two similar groups: Those that change and improve when something isn't working and those jobs that change for change's sake or to chase the latest fad or goal imposed from outside.
I'm glad this is my second missed First Day of School.

Touche'...my thoughts exactly. I'll stay and make subtle changes...they'll never know what hit them! I've had 3 principals in 4 years! Ridiculous!
Wow Sounds like you and others are spending time each year training new leaders. That is not fun.
I went through your town today on my way to Springville. Lots of kids were out. Boy and Girl were with me and I think they had a tinge of jealousy wishing that they were with their friends instead of me.
I think after we move I may put in to substitute. It would be a good way to meet the other children in the valley.
