. . .a man if he gains the whole world and
forfeits his soul? Matthew 16:26a
I'm
not sure totally how this verse applies to what I'm thinking, but it sure has
been on my mind. Closer may be the thought, what are we to do with the
time allotted to us on Earth?
In
the last few years we have been gardening more and more. We pulled out
all of our grass and filling the space with vegetable beds. Though,
recently we laid a bit of sod for the dogs. The backyard slab, formerly
used for the blowup swimming pool, is now a wine barrel orchard. Our
thoughts and motivations are to provide for ourselves and others, mostly within
our family. Is there a bigger "market" for these efforts? Or is
this an effort to protect ourselves if the country goes deeper into a tailspin?
Or
are these motivations a gentle prodding to do something more for our fellow
man? Is this the hand of God moving us in a new direction just as a
father would hold up a child while learning to ride a bike?
